Why did Katie, who aspires to become a midwife in the U.S., come to LFC for a tour!?

Hello, everyone. This is Kawamitsu, the representative of LFC. It’s been a string of hot days—how are you all doing?

Today, we’d like to introduce Katie, who is pursuing a career as a midwife in the United States. Katie is a student at Thomas Jefferson University in the U.S. While she usually takes classes online, she came to LFC as part of her curriculum to observe approximately eight hours of clinical practice at a facility that cares for pregnant women and infants outside of a midwifery clinic.

At LFC, we often treat patients ranging from pregnant women to infants as young as zero years old, but unfortunately, I didn’t have the opportunity to see any of those patients this time. However, we were able to discuss how we typically treat pregnant patients and how chiropractic care can be helpful for them. One example is the “Pregnant Pillow,” a tool used for pregnant patients that is rarely provided at other massage therapy clinics, osteopathic clinics, or even other chiropractic offices. This pillow has a hole in the center so that when a pregnant woman lies face down, it doesn’t put pressure on the baby in her womb; the baby fits snugly into the hole, making it easier to perform treatments in the prone position.

On the other hand, in terms of what I’ve learned about pursuing a career as a midwife, I understand that I’ll be able to open my own clinic, go to hospitals when called upon, or visit clients’ homes to assist with childbirth. Although my time with Katie was brief—just two days—it was a very meaningful experience.

Why did Katie, an aspiring midwife from the U.S., come to visit LFC?

Hello everyone, this is Kawamitsu, the representative of LFC. It’s been a string of hot days—how is everyone doing?

Today, I’d like to introduce Katie, who is training to become a midwife in the United States. She is a student at Thomas Jefferson University. Although she typically takes classes online, she visited LFC as part of her curriculum to complete an eight-hour observational practicum at a facility that cares for expectant mothers and infants—specifically, a setting other than a standard midwifery clinic.

At LFC, we frequently treat pregnant patients and even infants, though unfortunately, Katie didn’t happen to encounter any such patients during her visit. However, we were able to discuss how we treat pregnant patients and the benefits chiropractic care offers them. One specific topic we covered was the “Pregnant Pillow”—a specialized tool rarely found in other bodywork clinics, osteopathic centers, or even many chiropractic offices. It features a cutout in the center that accommodates the baby bump, allowing the expectant mother to lie face-down comfortably without putting pressure on the baby during treatment.

Katie also shared what she has learned about her future career as a midwife; she plans to open her own clinic, visit hospitals upon request, and even attend births at clients’ homes. Although her time at LFC was brief—lasting just two days—it was a truly meaningful experience for all of us.
